Brief History of Tufanganj Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama
The first meeting with the purpose to establish Tufanganj Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama took place on October 2, 1977, at Tufanganj N.N.M. High School. Later, a second meeting was held at the same place. The then President of Jalpaiguri Mission Ashram, most revered Srimat Swami Hridayananda Ji Maharaj, was present in that second meeting and delivered a speech on the topic "The Place & Service to Humanity in the Perspective of Sri Ramakrishna."
A few days later, two generous persons voluntarily donated the land on which the present Sevashrama is situated. The quantity of land is 37 decimals. The land donors were the wife of Late Nitai Das (now in Cooch Behar) and Late Santi Kumar Das, whose whereabouts are unknown to us at present.
After some days, the Ramakrishna Sevashrama Committee was formed on December 10, 1977. After about two decades, the present Tufanganj Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama started its journey on August 16, 1992, through special worship of Thakur-Maa-Swamiji.
Remarkably, the present name Tufanganj Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama was coined by the 12th President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, most revered Srimat Swami Bhuteshananda Ji Maharaj. The present Ramakrishna temple, made of tin, was donated by Dr. Jaharbrata Sarkar in 1991. Since then, since then sevashram is being constituted by the donations of several devotees. In this context one of the notable name can be cited is late Rabindranath bhowmik. At that time worshipping of the divine trio was seatteredly in different places along with discussion thereon.
